Exponential Change, Linear Minds

We live in a time when technology advances at an exponential rate, while our capacity to adapt remains stubbornly linear. This mismatch is the source of much of today’s fear and confusion. Social platforms amplify this anxiety, rewarding attention over understanding, and magnifying narratives of doom.

• Generational perspective: Baby boomers, who witnessed earlier waves of disruption, often feel the sharpest anxiety. Yet when I entered the job market decades ago, the pace of change was equally daunting for its time. Each generation has faced disruption; what has changed is the scale and speed.
• The illusion: Fear tells us that exponential growth is uncontrollable, that we are destined to be overwhelmed. But this is the illusion. The truth is that we can govern technology with wisdom, humility, and courage.
• The invitation: Renewal requires courage to embrace the exponential. It asks us to shift from rear‑view mirrors to the road ahead, from fear to agency.
